Vision
THE COMMON GOOD
Government exists for the purpose of serving the common good, and the primary common good is enabling people to work, thus making it possible for them to live fully and provide for themselves.
THE POOR AND THE VULNERABLE
In making legislative decisions Bob will always give special attention to the interests of the the poor and the vulnerable, including children, the sick, the disabled, the unemployed, the aged, prisoners, immigrants, and all without a hopeful future. He will evaluate different ways a program might impact the poor, for example, what it does for them, to them, and - often more importantly - how it enables them to do things for themselves.
LIBERTY
The preamble to Florida’s constitution states that thepurpose of government is to secure the benefits of liberty. Thus, government exists for the individual, and not vice versa. Further, the state should not attempt to do for people what they can do for themselves.
WORKING TOGETHER
Floridians are interdependent. Businesses need workers. Workers need businesses. More to the point, legislators need ideas and people with ideas need legislators who will listen and act. If elected, Bob will work together with all constituents, not just those who now support him.
My positions on issues can change, and they should if new facts, better ideas or more widely acceptable options are introduced. Nevertheless, my vision, principles and values will not change. These will guide me in my evaluation of new facts, ideas and options. Knowing these will enable you to better understand better what kind of legislator I might become.
