Florida Pro-Life Democrats Pay Tribute to Bob Hagenmaier’s Candidacy for Florida State House
Our democracy is most basically based on everyday citizens offering themselves up as candidates for elected office. While Election Day is very important, the most important day for any campaign is when the individual citizen commits to offering himself up to serve his neighbors. In most cases, this is an internal and inexplicable tug at one’s soul toward service and quite possibly a series of sleepless nights and thoughtful days.
Bob Hagenmaier made the courageous decision to become a candidate for Florida’s State House. He was ready to serve and run for office with integrity. Bob executed a precise and deliberate campaign. He decided from the beginning that his campaign would represent his principles as both a Democrat and a Pro-life Catholic. In addition, he refused donations to his modestly financed campaign. He participated in the most unusual activity for any politician, by personally stamping checks made out to his campaign as “void” and kindly returning them.
Fighting to win a seat in Florida’s House, Bob was simply Bob. He spoke directly to perspective constituents, and he never shied away from who he is. He ran a genuine campaign, and that makes all of us on the Board of Florida Democrats for Life honored to call him one of our own.
Since Bob is analytical and a person of integrity, it seems fitting to summarize his campaign with a succinct explanation of integrity. The Latin root of integrity is integer, a whole number. In a person of integrity, all aspects are whole and integrated, working together to achieve that person’s faithful purpose.
Make no mistake that we want Pro-life Democrats to win races, but fighting for votes from your moral center is all that can be expected. 32,859 people or 48% of the electorate in Florida District 65 thought Bob Hagenmaier was ready to serve, and we couldn’t agree more.FL Democrats for Life Board of Directors

Dear Independent Voter.
‘Change’ is a buzzword this election. Does Florida need change? Please allow me to suggest a way of answering that question.
Just imagine for a moment that you are planning a vacation trip with your family at a time when airline crashes are fairly frequent. Suppose further that you do your homework and read enough of an article about airline crash rates for different carriers to find out that Acme Airways has 2.3 crashes per billion passenger miles (fictional airlines and statistics). Your next step would probably be to learn more about crash statistics or simply take a shortcut and find out how Acme Airways compares with other carriers in number of crashes. I bet you would take the shortcut.
Likewise, I suggest that comparing it with other states is a good shortcut method for deciding whether Florida needs change. Here now are some important comparisons.
Florida has
- the 46th highest high-school graduation rate, 46th of the 50 states.
- the 46th –highest average SAT score.
- the 40th highest per capita Gross Domestic Product.
- the 49th highest per capital funding for mental health and substance abuse services.
- the 49th lowest state and local ‘tax burden’ for the poorest 20% of the population. [Tax burden is the amount of taxes paid as % of income.]
Do these statistics convince you that Florida needs changes? They convinced me, and that is why I am running for office. If you are convinced, then here now are two reasons why you, an independent, should vote for me.
First, vote for me because I am not a Republican, the party that bears responsibility for these dismal rankings, the party that has controlled the state government these last ten years.
Finally, vote for me because my goal is very much centered on improving these very rankings. Read this website to see that I am serious about improving Florida schools and by doing so make the state attractive to new employers. See also that I am concerned for the welfare of the poor and vulnerable. Vote for me and advise your friends to do the same.

Please Move Your Yard Sign!!
First, I thank those of you who have my yard sign on your property. I am honored that you would do so.
Your yard sign can help me win votes from undecided voters, especially now, during these final days of the campaign. It can help much more if you move it around to different locations on your property, because drivers tend to ignore signs after seeing them many times. Just moving it around a bit can help get it noticed.
